The main parts of harvested willow biomass are delivered to power/heat stations, where willow wood chips are parts of the fuel mix. Increasing requests are given for biomasses, e.g. willow biomass for large coal firing power stations in countries like Poland, Great Britain, Germany and Czech Republic. New areas for biomass as raw material are for biogas production and for production of liquid fuels.
It will also be actually to grow willow on soils polluted by cadmium (Cd). In a recently published report from Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (NV-00336-13) plantations of willow coppice is the most effective method to remediate soils from Cd for future production of food crops.
